DEM Party Women’s Assembly expressed their reaction to the targeting of women’s clothing in the last Friday sermon prepared by the Presidency of Religious Affairs.
The statement of the DEM Party Women’s Assembly is as follows:
“The statement implies that questioning the decisions women make about their bodies and lives as if they were a crime is unacceptable, and the public should not remain silent. By stating that and calling on society, the Presidency of Religious Affairs has committed a crime against women’s right to life. We say it loud and clear! The call made by the Presidency justifies violence and massacres against women. It is a call to declare war on women. It emboldens perpetrators of crimes against women. Those responsible for this content and those who approve it are also responsible for the crimes committed against women and those that will be committed.”
We will not back down against the attack on women’s bodies, the right to life, and the struggle for freedom and equality. We will enhance our struggle against the oppression imposed on our bodies by this male-dominated order. We will change this understanding that interferes with women’s lifestyle.”
WHAT EXPRESSIONS WERE IN THE SERMON?
The following expressions were included in the last Friday sermon:
“Let us not forget that clothes that expose the body, reveal body curves are not a style or image but a violation of Allah’s commandments. Attempting to normalize nudity through some movies, series, digital media broadcasts, and advertisements is not courage and freedom, but an attack on the institution of the family. Being in public spaces, especially in institutional settings, with inappropriate clothing is a challenge to even the minimum moral standards. This is not modernity, it is primitiveness. Anyone who remains silent against the violation of moral and ethical standards carries a heavy responsibility. Because protecting the chastity, manners, and ethics of our generation is a common responsibility for all.”
